Remington Solar Chemical-Free “Sun Shock” is our exciting new product for 2015. In about a year, you’ll need to replace your copper-alloy anode. NOTE: You can clean it by sliding the metal coils against the anode to remove the green flaky residue. Be sure to clean the coils as well, to maximize the life of your anode. But when the party’s over, it’s over…but start it again with a new anode. (Remington Solar’s anode cannot be interchanged with other products.)

We have a 35000 gallon pool. As the water got warmer maybe high 70’s low 80″s we had some algae growth. I had to supplement the system with chlorine. I’m not sure how many ionizers I would need for that capacity pool but, 1 was not enough.

    • Murray Smith (verified owner)

You are correct. One Sun Shock ionizer will handle up to 22,000 gallons. For your pool, you will need 2 units.

Used it for 6 months from Oct 2016 to Mar.11 2017, worked great but now I have algie. I clean the anode, spring and cage units regularly. My inground pool is only 10,000 gal’s. I make sure it is exposed to the sun from morning to afternoon. I don’t know what went wrong. It was working so well. There is still a lot of copper left, although pitted, and it does scale up as when it was new. What to do?

It works, but don’t rely on the test strips. They don’t indicate any copper at low levels.

    • Murray Smith (verified owner)

That is correct. The copper test strips are a bit “iffy”. However, that is the current state of copper test strip testing. The best way to tell if it’s working and putting copper in your pool is to put the Sun Shock in a clear glass of water (just the copper part, of course, with or without the basket). Hold the unit up to the sun. See if you can see small bubbles (will look almost like a mist) coming off the coils. If so, your unit is working fine. The other test is if your pool is clear! If it’s green, contact customer support at

WOW… pool filter / salt water chlorinator running just 3 hours a day … sparkling clean water at .3-.5 ppm copper & 1ppm chlorine!!

Metals participated out first month… salt remains over 3200 ppm even with last several weeks of MATTHEW rain bands diluting!

Electric bill calculates a savings of over $70 a month from summer ‘normal’ here in South Florida for two months of use!

Eyes/skin/hair never felt better during and after daily swims.

Same technology our Nuke Plants are using to prevent Zebra mussels from blocking their inlet water screens for past two decades!

Was Leary at first I had Algie all summer and couldn’t get rid of it. Saw this at Costco so I figured I’d try it couldn’t go wrong with the price. Got it put it in and after a couple weeks the Algie was gone and water clear. I’m sold. Haven’t added chlorine since.

First season using your Solar Ionizer & Purifier and I’m sold! So little chlorine, all season and the pool is much cleaner & virtually bug free. Well worth the investment for the device and the weekly few minutes to clean the ionizer. Thank-you!

Has little practical value – there is no way to keep a low chlorine level sustained over a long period,
this device does not eliminate the need for chlorine just lower the amount needed –
adds expense and complexity with no real world practical value for most applications.
Personally I am beginning to believe some of the reviews are bogus -we will see if this even gets posted or if only 5 star reviews are kept

    • Murray Smith (verified owner)

Actually, it does work. Reviews are legit. You definitely need to keep some chlorine in a floaty for sanitization. Our feedback from our own research as well as from our customers shows a reduction of chlorine by up to 85%…not 100%. This should be a cost effective result as compared to the purchase of the Sun Shock product. Please feel free to contact with any additional questions or concerns. Skepticism is good!

Great Product! In Texas summer heat this product Remington Solar was put to the TEST. So far I have saved over hundreds of dollars by not having to buy additionally chlorine-shock treatments.
I will keep this product as long as I have my swimming pool.

Thanks for creating a great product Remington.

Used this for a whole season. Worked as described. Water was crystal clear and didn’t leave my skin feeling dryer out. Highly recommend. Opened the pool yesterday. Water was the most clear I’ve ever had after a long winter. Stop reading and order one you’ll be glad you did.

Waited a whole season to review. This is fantastic. I have never used so little chlorine and had such a clean pool. I didn’t even use chlorine over the winter.

This thing is absolutely fantastic. Way to go Remington Solar.
